Angle-pieces and the like.-U-shaped tubes, such as superheater tubes, are made by slitting the ends b of the separate legs, inserting a drift c, Fig. 3, with a rounded projecting end c<1> to form parts of the shape shown at d, e, Figs. 3<a> and 3<b>, rounding the ends, preferably by a roller and sweep arm, and finally trimming and preferably bevelling the ends, and welding to the form shown in Fig. 5, by autogenous welding with the aid of iron wire. The method is also applicable to cases in which two legs of the bend are close together and in which the joint is not symmetrically disposed.
