Abstract

7282. Priestley, W. March 26. Endless-chain machines.-A machine for the production of firelighters comprises an endless mould chain c, which has spring-retained bottom plates, and acts in conjunction with a carrying-off belt g<2>. Material contained in a heated hopper b passes into the moulds r, is compressed by a plunger y, or roller, or a roller and plunger combined, and the moulded cakes are discharged on to the band g<2>. Intermittent movement is imparted to the mould chain c and band g<2> by ratchet devices o, p, q ; n<1>, o<1>, p<1>, respectively, and the plunger y is operated by cranks g<1>. The bottom plates u, Fig. 3, are forced outwards, to discharge the moulded cakes, by the chain-wheels acting upon projections v ; and the plates may be formed so as to indent or stamp the cakes. A table s supports the upper part of the chain.
