Baffles; dampers.-In a water-tube boiler of the large-tube type, the passages for t h e furnace gases between the tubes 5 are partially reduced by longitudinal baffling- members, such as iron tubes 12, 13 which are preferably formed with a n n u l a r enlargements mounted at the top of each tube stack. The baffling - members 14 at the bottom of the smokestack are connected by transverse rods 16 and are adapted to be raised and lowered to regulate the passage of the gases between the boiler tubes 15 by external gearing a n d hand - wheels. A secondary combustion chamber 11 is provided between the upper and the lower sets of tubes.
