Vertical boilers.-A vertical boiler has groups of fire-tubes d extending from top to bottom on each side of a furnace flue b arranged across the middle. The gases pass downwards from the furnace-flue through an external flue f, and then upwards through the fire-tubes to a smoke-box h at the top of the boiler. Vertical water-tubes k in the external flue open into boxes l, m in communication with the upper and lower parts of the boiler.
