Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in In a carburettor the fuel and supplementary air valves operate independently at starting, or whenever there is no vacuum in the carburettor, but are automatically connected so as to work simultaneously when the engine is running. The supplementary air supply is controlled by the differential piston 4, which lifts when the air pressure within it falls ; its interior is connected by an opening 7 with the space 5. The needle valve 11 is closed by the suction on the piston 12 and is normally raised by the spring 14. When the stop 15 engages the disk 16, the needle valve 11 is controlled by the piston 4. A gauze-covered revolving shutter 9 filters and controls the auxiliary air supply. A hot-water jacket for heating the air and combustible liquid is provided.
