Gas or explosive-vapour engines.-In an engine in which the fuel is sprayed by compressed air and enters the combustion chamber at the point of maximum compression, liquid fuel, such as naphtha, is supplied to the chamber 3 through the passage 13 and the non-return valve 15. Water enters the chamber through the valve 18. The chamber 3 is in communication with a compressed-air reservoir by the pipe 8, normally closed by the needle valve 4. At the required time the valve 4 is opened by a cam-actuated lever (not shown), and the fuel is sprayed through the passage 5 into the combustion chamber.
