9277. McCarty, W. F. C. M. April 22. Spring wheels.-A central disk 1, Fig. 2, is formed with an inner collar 3 supporting the axle, and with a grooved periphery 4. Metal liners 5 are secured to the disk, and also plates 12 formed with offset flanges 13. The outer portion 2 of the wheel is formed of a number of wedge-shaped sections 6, Fig. 1, riveted together at their flanged edges 7 and overlapping the disc 1. The inner edges are bevelled at 14 and pass within the flanges 13, and pneumatic tubes or strips 15 fill the recesses so formed. The inner face 9 of the tread portion 8 is grooved and along with the groove 4 is corrugated as at 11, Fig. 1, to ensure driving-connexion by means of an inflated pneumatic cushion. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the inner disk is formed with a flange 18, and a single outer disk is used, also formed with a flange 21 and a tread portion 23 surrounding the periphery of the inner disk and enclosing the cushion 24.
