Abstract

28,306. Maley, A. W. Dec. 12. Brakes.-In a track brake for railway or tramway vehicles, the drag of a main track-block is arranged to apply one or more auxiliary track-blocks to the track. The main track-block may be depressed by electro - magnetic means, by fluid - pressure, or by hand, or by more than one of these means, and the auxiliary track - blocks may have supplementary means, such as electro-magnets, for applying them to the track. In the preferred arrangement, a main electro - magnetic track-block 1 is connected by telescopic rods 10, 10<1> to floating levers 5, 5<1>, which are connected together by a rod 9, and to levers 6, 6<1>, which are pivoted to brackets 7, 7<1> and are connected by thrust-rods 4, 4<1> to auxiliary track-blocks 2, 2<1>, the drag of which is taken by links 3, 3<1>, connected to the axle-boxes or some other suitable part. The levers 5, 5<1>, 6, 6<1> are pulled towards a central bracket 12 by springs 8, 8<1>, the motion being limited by stops 11, 11<1>. The block 1, when applied to the track, applies both the other blocks by means of the rods and levers described, whichever may be the direction of travel.
