Brakes, arrangement and disposition of.- Electric and other tramcars and vehicles are provided with two independent sets of brakes, of which one is operated from one end of the car and the other from the opposite end of the car, the arrangement being such that the set that is operated from the end of the car which is for the moment the front end, acts upon the downwardly moving sides of the wheels. Figs. 1 and 2 show hand-actuated brakes for tramcars, in which one set of brakes c, h is applied by means of the usual brake staff which is connected with the hook r of the pull-rod r<1>, the other set c<1>, h<1> being applied by a similar pull-rod t connected to the brake staff at the opposite end of the car.
