The roof 8 is glazed with opal glass, and the burner 2, by-pass 4, and gas cock 5 are carried. on the supply pipe within the lantern. The gas cock is operated by a chain, passing over a pulley on the cock, and preferably through tubes in the lantern base to be connected to rods 61. The mantle support is carried loosely in its socket.
