Abstract
24,360. Lovell, E. C. Oct. 31. Feeding-apparatus for webs.-In an apparatus for feeding a printed web of paper to a bagmaking or other machine and for cutting it into blanks, the correct register of the printed matter is ensured by feeding forwards a slight excess of the web, securing the end, and then withdrawing the amount overfed. The web x is drawn from a roll by rollers c, d, and then passes under a roller e supported by the paper. The paper is fed forwards by rollers g, g<1>, g<4>, g<5> until its end meets a stop and the paper buckles slightly. A pair of cam-operated pins f, f<1> are then raised until they enter perforations previously made in the sides of the strip. A cam-operated plate m, which has holes for the reception of the pins f, f<1>, descends upon the paper, and an arm k, which controls the frame j carrying the rollers g, g<1>, then allows springs to lift these rollers and thus free the paper. The excess of paper is drawn back by the roller e, which may be pressed downwards by springs, and the blank is then severed by a knife l<4> acting in conjunction with a fixed knife l<5>. The plate m may be operated from the knife-operating lever l<3>.
