Abstract
477,410. Paper-folding machines. ISACHSEN, D. June 27, 1936, No. 17928. [Class 100 (i)] In a machine for making paper wrappers, towels, or the like, one or more paper webs are slit into narrower webs each of which passes through a longitudinal folding-device comprising flat parallel folding-plates, the folded webs being subsequently cut into the separate articles by a reciprocating knife. The web or webs 8, 81 pass between slitters 5 and then through sets of folding devices 22. From continuously-rotating feed-rolls 6 the folded webs pass over a guide roller 35 between a fixed bar 36 and a reciprocating bar 37 to fast-moving feed-rollers 7 and a reciprocating cutter 43. Prior to the operation of the cutter 43, the bars 36, 37 grip the webs so that a loop is formed between the bars and the rollers 6, this loop being taken up by the feed-rolls 7 when the webs are released. The cut pieces of folded paper fall on to a platform 46. Each folding-device comprises a plate 24 under which a web passes and is bent over its edges, and two plates 25 slightly spaced therefrom. The side portions of the web pass between the plates 25 and are bent outwardly over their inner edges, rollers 30 on levers 31 pressing down the folds so formed.
