Abstract
1,081,584. Web folding apparatus; crimping. R. COUZENS and M. M. YOUNG. May 12, 1965 [May 14, 1964], No; 20053/65. Headings B6H and B6P. An apparatus for. the production of superimposed longitudinally folded webscomprises manufacturing lines 11, 13, Fig. 1 (not shown), of folding devices 28, Fig. 2, in each of which a web 30 of tissue paper is supplied from a roll 22 over a roller 32 and a plough 34 to the nip of folding rollers 36 which fold the web longitudinally along a fold line 46. The folded webs are superimposed on top of one another to form a stack 12 advanced on a conveyer 84 provided on the bottom surface with a rack driven by a gear 98. Each of the folded webs passes over a further guide roller 40 and the top folded portion 42 is maintained above and spaced from the bottom folded portion 44 by a stationary guide 48 disposed above a pair of crimping or embossing rollers 52, 54 so that the longitudinal marginal edge of the folded portion 44 of one web may be joined by an easily separable joint to the longitudinal marginal edge of the folded portion 50 of the next adjacent web. The gear 98, crimping rollers 52, 54, guide roller 40 and folding rollers 36 are driven synchronously by a transmission unit 56. The stacks of webs 12 and 14, Fig. 1 (not shown), produced by the manufacturing lines 11, 13 are guided over rollers 74, 72, respectively, and superimposed at a roller 76. A further crimping or embossing unit 80 is provided between the roller 76 and a cutter 18 to effect a separable joint between the adjacent folded portions of the superimposed stacks 12, 14.
