Abstract
19,547. Treen, J. Sept. 1. Gas and like engines.-One or more pairs of cylinders have each two pistons which drive yokes that embrace cranks on two parallel crank shafts. Fig. 4 shows a four-cylinder engine with three crank-shafts geared together, the central shaft having eight cranks V and the lateral ones four each W, X. Each lower piston s, s<4> is joined to a yoke U<2>, U<4>, and each pair of upper pistons drives a cross-head U or U<1>, which is connected by side rods to two yokes each embracing a pair of cranks. The yokes slide in lateral guides in the crank case. The combustion chambers P have an admission and an exhaust valve, and one of the pistons in each cylinder overruns an additional exhaust port at the end of the expansion stroke.
