Abstract

14,217. FrÞre, P. June 21. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-The breechblock 1 of an automatic rifle with fixed barrel and recoiling breech-block is held in the closed position by a forked bolt. 7, shown separately in Figs. 18 and 19, having wedge-shaped projections 6 which engage in the recesses 5; shown in plan in Fig. 34, of the guide-rails 4 of the breech-block. After the sear 34 has been released by the pivoted lever 31 of the trigger, the motion of the trigger continues, until the upper edge of a notch 25 of the trigger engages the cross-bar 24 of a double pivoted lever 22 engaging 'the bolt 7 and so depresses the locking-bolt 7. The breech-block is returned by a spring which is mounted on a pin 44 bearing against a projection 48 of the breechblock. For non-automatic use, the lever 58 is turned into the vertical position shown,in Fig. 1 so that the catch piece 50 is raised into position for retaining the recoiled breech-block. The cocking- piece is secured to the breech-bolt for opening by hand by turning the ring 84, so as to engage the hooked lever 92 with a projection 96 of the bolt. The locking-bolt 7 can be depressed by means of a pivoted lever with a push-button. The breech-bolt is retained in the open position, when the magazine is empty, by means of the stop 61, Fig. 4, carried by a lever 60 which is pushed up by means of the projection 68 on-the cartridge-lifting lever 69.
