Abstract
7514. Clift, E. H. March 28. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in. The inlet valve A is within the exhaust valve B, and the space between their stems forms the carburettor. A fuel valve E admitting fuel to the carburettor is opened either by the inlet valve or by the lever V that works the inlet valve. Metal balls D or the like are placed in the carburetting-space and are shaken at each opening of the valves. A water-jacket c', separate from the cylinder jacket, surrounds the carbarettor,' by which means the temperature is regulated. The part f<1> of the fuel-supply pipe has a joint f<3> of such a nature that the pipe f<1> may easily be swung to one side or removed. The pipe f may be so constructed as to cut off the fuel supply when swung in this manner, or a valve may be provided which closes automatically when the pipe f is removed.
