Abstract

2726. Sangster, C. T. B. Feb. 10 Gas and like engines.-Cylinders, especially those with mechanically-operated valves, are provided with a head in which the inlet and exhaust valve chambers b, c, Fig. 2, are on the same side of the cylinder as the exhaust branch e, while the inlet branch is on the opposite side of the cylinder and communicates with the inlet-valve chambers b through a passage d. The operating-mechanism for both valves can thus all be arranged at one side of the cylinder, the carburettor being placed on the other side. The valve-chambers b, c opan into the combustion chamber a, arranged as shown. The whole is cast in one-piece, with suitable water jackets. Such engines are particularly applicable to motor-cars.
