  • Control Of The Air-Fuel Ratio Of Carburetors (AREA)

Abstract

17,309. Haddan, H. J., [Stewart, A. C.]. Aug. 26. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in. In a carburettor, the air inlet and outlet are simultaneously regulated by the suction, the area of the fuel inlet not being altered. A rod 24, Fig. 7, carries a ring 18, controlling the air inlet, a disk 27 controlling the outlet, and a piston 26 to prevent oscillations of the valve. The disk 27 is slightly smaller than the opening 15<a>, and the ring 18 slides inside a sleeve 17, ports 17<a> in which are adjustable with respect to the ports 16 in the outer case. This adjustment having been made before starting, the suction subsequently determines the position of the ring 18. Fuel is supplied from a float-feed chamber of the usual type, to holes 14 as shown. Above the opening 15<a> is a mixing- chamber 3, shown in section in Fig. 3 in a plane perpendicular to that of Fig. 7. Two outlets 35, 36 are provided, both controlled by a right-angled plate 34. Either of these outlets is used as may be most convenient for attachment, and the one not in use is closed by a plug. In Fig. 7, the sleeve 17 is shown as adjustable by means of a screwthread 39. In a modification, a stud fixed to the sleeve projects through a slot in the outer case, and carries a clamping-screw. The ports 17<a> may be shaped as shown in Figs. 8 and 9.
