22,748. Parsons, C. A., and Turnbull, J. Oct. 21. Steam turbines. -Relates to means for closing large non- return valves, such as are used in turbine installations for instance. The valve b, Figs. 1 and 2, is opened against a spring 6 acting through a double lever 5 bearing on collars 4 on the valve spindle. When the valve is to be closed, fluid under pressure is admitted by the pipe 8 to the cylinder h to drive the piston j to the left. The piston-rod is secured to a crosshead g, having a slipper guide s, and attached by rods f to a ring e which bears on and closes the valve. The valve may be held closed by fluid pressure, or by nuts y on studs r, passing through the crosshead. An oil or other cataract cylinder m prevents the valve from being driven too forcibly on to its seat.
