Abstract

4659. Fletcher, J. A. Feb. 25. Locking valves.-Consists in the provision of automatic means for preventing the opening of stop and like valves when there exists a predetermined difference between the pressures at its two sides. The apparatus comprises a locking-piece h adapted to take over a collar i on the valve spindle and guided by slots o in a casing t supported by pillars n. The locking piece is secured between collars f on a spindle e provided at the ends with pistons c, d moving in cylinders a, b. The cylinder a containing the larger piston is connected to the inlet side of the main valve, so that when the main valve is open the excess pressure on the larger piston releases the locking-bar. A spring may be employed to effect or assist this movement.
