Abstract
303,238. Armstrong, C. H., and Gordon, J. Oct. 28, 1927. Fluid-actuated valves; closure members, dual closure.-A valve device used to control the flow of fluids in accordance with changes in temperature, pressure, &c., has a combined piston and rotary cylindrical valve adapted to be rotated by, changes in temperature, &c., and reciprocated by variations in the conduit pressure. The valve member is arranged to work in an inner ported casing D, and has side ports F<1> adapted to cooperate with ports D<2> in the liner leading to the inlet and has an end part E<3> opposite the outlet C which is arranged at right angles to the inlet. The valve spindle, which is adjustably loaded by a spring K arranged between a bridge on the cover T and adjusting nuts on the spindle, passes through stuffing boxes F<1>, G<1> into a chamber H connected to the inlet side of the valve by a pipe H'. The closed end of the valve member is subject to inlet pressure admitted through ports D<1>. The pressure behind the valve may be arranged to be intermediate the inlet and outlet pressures. The application to a boiler feed regulator is described, in which case the valve is rotated by a thermal element connected to an arm L on the spindle.
