Abstract
16,460. Clarke, F. H. July 26. Incandescent gas lamps.-Two cylindrical mantles A, B are arranged concentrically and suspended from an arrangement of double rings C. A flange F<a> of the rings rests o n a perforated cap G, which in turn rests on the upper edge of the glass chimney H. The cap G also supports along metal chimney. The lower edge of the glass chimney is enclosed so as to prevent the admission of the exterior air. The upper part of the burner is in the form of a ring which fits between the lower edges of the mantles A, B. The gaseous mixture is supplied from the mixing-chamber E through three elliptical passages F. The air necessary for combustion can only enter through the perforations in the cap G, and, passing down over the surface of the outer mantle, becomes heated. Part of the air passes between the tubes F and so reaches the interior of the inner mantle. The flange F<a> and the upper part of the double ring C prevent the air from passing from the perforations directly to the metal chimney.
