Abstract
13,033. BollÚ, C., [Brown, C. H.]. June 9. Cigars and cheroots ; cigarette-making machines and appliances.-Consists of a machine for making cheroots &c. which are tapered at both ends. The proper quantity of tobacco T, Fig. 1, is placed in the pocket of the apron E, which is made of the shape required to fit the table A. The apron passes over the conical rollers F<1>, F<2>, Fig. 2, which have their larger ends adjacent and are mounted on a spindle bent in the horizontal plane and carried by a frame F<3>. The two ends of the cheroot &c. are tapered separately by rotating the frame F<3> and rollers F<1>, F<2>, firstly around the post d<12> and secondly around the post d<14>. The wrapper W is laid upon the apron as shown. For the purpose of tightening the apron E, it is fastened at one end to a rocking piece B, Fig. 1, drawn by a spring towards the post a' and fixed on the shaft b. A slide D carries inclined shoulders d<5>, d<6> and a movable piece d<7>, all of which are in contact with the roller d<10>, carried by a lever d<11>, which is pressed upwards by a spring and is fixed to the shaft b. When the slide D is moved to the right, the lever d<11> is first depressed, causing a pocket to be formed in the apron, and then raised, causing the apron to be tightened.
