CIGAR-ROLLING APRON.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 498,134, dated May 23, 1893. Application filed February 1890. $erial No. 339,041. (ModeL) T0 (1 whom it may concern.-

' a citizen of the United States, residing at Newport, in the county of Campbell and State I) of Kentucky, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Cigar-Rolling Aprons, of which the following is a specification. I

Fig. III is a View looking toward the butt end of the pocket, a portion only of the apron beingshown. Figs. IV, V, VI and VII represent the operation of my bunch rolling apron. Fig. IV represents the apron in position for receiving the tobacco, the pocket being supported in the die of the follower. Fig. V represents the position of the apron after the tobacco has been deposited in the pocket, but before the roller has commenced to act. Fig. VI represents the position of the apron after the roller has commenced to act, the tobacco being inclosed in the bite of the apron. Fig. VII represents the position of the apron at the point of delivering the rolled bunch.

A is the apronhaving a transverse pocket. B stamped or otherwise formed therein, said pocket having a point C and a butt D, and being of semi-circular shape in cross section and approximately of the shape of the cigar bunch to be rolled, and in which pocket the filler for the bunch is deposited, to be rolled in the binder, thereby greatly controlling the shape of the bunch.

The operation of my improved bunch rollingapron is substantially the same as in my patent, No.416,117, grantedNovember26,1889. The apron is supported between the arms 74 and 91,- over the curved table 74 and the follower 21. The bunch-roller 46 is supported upon the arm 42 behind the follower 21. The

tobacco to be rolled into a hunch is deposited on the apron A in the pocket D, the parts being at the commencement of the operation in the position shown in Fig. IV. The follower 21 is next lowered fromunder theapron as indicated in Fig. V, and the roller 46 move forward as indicated in Fig. VI, so that the tobacco will be inclosed in the bite of the apron. The roller is moved along the table to the position shown in Fig. VII, which action rolls the bunch into the required form and deposits it in readiness for the mold. The operation of these parts is clearly set forth in my. said former patent, but it is quite obvious that my improved form of bunch rolling apron can be employed in combination with other forms of mechanism without departing from the scope of my invention. Thus, for example, when the apronis employed on machines not having theequivalent of the follower 21, it would be supported between the arms 74 and 71, upon the bunch-roller 46. The pocket B is shown nearly flat in Fig. VII, which is caused by the tension of the arms 74 and 91.

The apron is preferably elastic, but it may be made of any suitable material.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A bunch-rolling apron formed with a single pocket of approximately the shape of the bunch to be rolled arranged transversely in the apron and extending nearly across the same as shown and described.

2. A bunch-rolling apron formed of elastic material, with a single pocket of approximately the shape of the bunch to be rolled extending nearly across the apron as herein shown and described.

3. The combination of abunch-rollingapron, suitably supported at its ends formed with a transverse single pocket, adapted to receive the filler of a cigar, with the follower 21 and bunch-roller 46 substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
