6425. Banks, O. T. March 16. Supporting lamps.-An imitation candle to support a lamp consists of a tube j of porcelain or similar material, and an inner tube carrying the lamp-holder h. The inner tube consists of two tubes a of insulating- material, united by a metal sleeve b, which is fixed to the bottom tube a by being indented with a punch. The upper tube a can be slid in the sleeve, which is cut at the top so that portions can be bent inwards to engage with one of a number of holes d in the tube a. Instead of the holes d, the tube a may have a vertical slot into which a projection from the sleeve b engages, to prevent rotation. A sleeve k with spring strips l is fixed to the bottom of the stem, to hold the candle in its socket, and carries a support m for the porcelain tube j, which is further secured by spring tongues i cut and bent out from the sleeve b. In other arrangements for securing the candle in its socket, the end of the stem a is screwed, and a ring with spring arms, or rings of india-rubber, is secured between screw collars on the stem. Over the upper tube a is screwed the extension s of the lampholder, the porcelain base t of which, carrying the usual spring plungers, is secured between the end of the stem a and a shoulder u in the holder. The base t has vertical grooves which receive projections punched in the extension s of the holder.
