Abstract

Gas burners.-Relates to means for preventing the " spread of explosions " or back-firing in blowpipes and the like by providing the inlet end of the gas supply pipe with a thin porous body protected, if necessary, by a perforated metallic lining, and arranging the inlets to the mixing-chamber perpendicular to its axis. When gaseous jets are required to strike each other, or to cause eddying motion, the inlets are arranged to converge towards, or to be directed obliquely on, the axis of the mixing-chamber. In the form shown in the Figure, the combustible gas, such as acetylene, is conducted by a pipe a to a chamber a<1> containing the perforated end of a pipe a<2>. This end is covered by a thin cylinder d of porous material, and the other end opens into an annular chamber a<3> having orifices g leading to the mixing-chamber c, which is supplied with oxygen from a pipe b.
