Clip and sleeve joints; jointing with internal ferrules ; plates, walls, and the like, securing pipes to; stopping pipes and tubes.- Relates to pipe joints and shaft couplings of the type in which a tapered thimble is used either externally or internally for binding the parts together, the invention being also applied to connecting pipes to metal plates and to repairing damaged pipes. In the case of soft-metal pipes, a double cone of brass e, Fig. 1, is inserted between the expanded ends of the pipes, which are then drawn together by bolts connecting the flanges, which are shaped to fit the cone. For connecting pipes to metal plates, a similar arrangement is employed, the ferrule e only having one cone in this case while the flange is drawn up to the surface of the plate by bolts passing through holes in the latter. Fig. 3 shows the method of connecting iron pipes, the double cone k taking the form of an external sleeve in this case. For repairing split or broken pipes, a sleeve, such as that shown in Fig. 3, is fixed round the broken part by means of bolts and flanges as before described. The flanges are formed in two or more parts screwed together to erable them to be placed round the pipe when the end is not accessible. The sleeve is also made in two parts, as shown in Fig. 9.
