Hauling and winding engines; ropes, arranging and guiding; cranes. - Relates to hoisting- apparatus in which the grab, tip - bucket, or other load is raised and lowered and traversed horizontally. The hoisting and grab opening and closing ropes m, k are wound in the same direction on their drums a, b, which are driven by independent electric motors a', b<8>, or, in a modification, by steam engines, the drum b being, preferably, fixed to the shaft and the drum a clutched thereto. The traversing-rope p is wound in the opposite direction on a third drum f, which is loose on the shaft and fitted with a clutch. The ropes k, m pass over sheaves on the trolley, and the rope p passes over a sheave at the end of the beam and is either fixed to the trolley, or passes round a sheave thereon and is fixed to the beam, Fig. 4. The load is raised and lowered by rotating the drums a, b together, the drum f being fixed, and is traversed by rotating all three drums together, so that the ropes k, m unwind while the rope p winds on to an equal extent, or vice versÔ.
