Abstract

28,712. Thompson, W. P., [Saint-Denis, J. E.]. Dec. 29. Gas or explosive-vapour engines, carburetting in. Air and some volatile liquid, such as petrol or alcohol, are supplied to the carburetter through openings d, n respectively, the liquid passing into the chamber b, past a valve controlled by the spindle o, and through the opening k in the injector j. The cotton or wire wick tends to clarify the liquid as it passes into the chamber b. The liquid, before entering the chamber c and pipe e by the piston suction, is sprayed against the underside of a wire-gauze basket p, and finally drawn through the wire-gauze cone t attached to the plug q. The air, which may be hot or cold, passes into the chamber c through the wire gauze at p and t, together with the finely-divided liquid, and passes into the engine through the pipe e. Grooves are provided on the inner walls of the chamber c to facilitate the splitting up of the liquid. Fig. 1 indicates a modification of the wire gauze attached to the plug q.
