Abstract

2577. Gingins, A. de. July 8, A.D. 1901, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Tyres, pneumatic, inflating. Relates to tyre valves of the type shown in Fig. 1 and to means, shown in Fig. 2, for inflating tyres in a steady manner. The valve casing 1, secured to the air tube 2 of the tyre, has an elastic seating 10 on which bears the head 9 of the tube 7. The flanged edge of the valve cap 16 is pressed upon the elastic valve seating 20 by screwing the nut 18 on to the casing 1, and the elastic packing 21 then forms an airtight joint with the end of the tube 7. Relative rotation of the valve cap and nut 13 is prevented by the projection 15 and groove 14. For inflation, the valve cap is replaced by a chamber 25 which is connected to the tube 7 by means of a junction nut 28. Inside the chamber is a non-return valve 26 so that, when the nut 23 has been screwed on to the inflator, air passes into the chamber 25, and thence, after the screw nut 13 has been loosened through the tube 7 and holes 8 into the air tube, rotation of the tube 7 in the casing being prevented by a projection 12 and groove 11. In a modification, the chamber 25 is permanently secured to the valve casing.
