Abstract
18,607. Cartwright, J., and Underhill, G. B. Oct. 18. Tyres, pneumatic. -Relates to a valve which is opened and closed respectively by screwing on and off the nozzle of the inflator. The externally screwthreaded valve casing A is secured to the air tube by the head a<1>, and is provided at the opposite end with a cap F, which holds the tube D within the casing A so that an airtight joint is made between them by means of the rubber ring d<2>. The projecting stem B, which screws into the tube D, bears against the rubber ring e', and is provided with a shoulder b<3>, which bears against the flange on the cap F. The stem B has an inner flange b<4>, on which rests the T-head p<3> of the valve spindle P, which is provided at its inner end with an enlarged part p<2> and a rubber washer p<1>. The screw threads on the external part and on the enlarged part of the stem B are of the same hand, so that screwing the nozzle N of the inflator on to the stem B rotates the stem in the tube D, and releases the valve spindle to act as a non-return valve. Inside the nozzle is a cylinder n<2>, which fits within the stem B. The dust cap H is formed like a split pin and fits within the stem. The rubber ring e<1> may be held in position by a metal sleeve E.
