6453. Honold, R. March 16. Tyres, pneumatic.-An inflating-valve is shown in section. The valve stem B is secured to the tyre and rim by means of the flange b, washer D, and nuts C, E. The ball A, which is prevented by the stop b<1> from falling out of the stem, acts during inflation as a back-pressure valve, the cap F being replaced by the nozzle of the inflator. After inflation, an air tight joint is obtained by screwing on the cap F, having a central conical core G, which takes into the end of the valve stem and tends to retain the cap in its screwed - on position. The extension H is employed to raise the ball from its seating when it is desired to deflate the tyre.
