Abstract
5605. Harrison, T. March 3. Tyres, pneumatic.-An inflating-valve for pneumatic tyres and the like is shown in section. The valve case A is secured to the tyre by the usual device a, and the tyre is inflated by forcing air from the inflator into the air passage P', where the pressure raises the valve R against the action of the spring r, and thus allows air to pass round the valve through the apertures b, annular spaces a',and tube P into the tyre. The air is retained in the tyre either by simply detaching the inflator, or, before removing the inflator; by screwing the tube t<1>, T by means of the nut N<1> until the valve V forms an airtight joint with its slating V<1>. In the former case, an airtight joint between the tube t', T and the outer casing is made by the washer W. To deflate, the nut N' is ; artially unscrewed until the airtight joints at both the valves V, Ware dispensed with.
