Abstract
190,190. Churchill, J. R. July 14, 1921. Exhaust silencers. -A silencer comprises two main parts 14 bolted, clipped, or otherwise secured together, one. or both parts being provided with an integral partition or partitions 17 forming a series of chambers connected by restricted passages. None of the partitions extends beyond the plane of the faced joint between the parts 14. These parts may be identical in form, or one may form merely a flat lid for the. other and larger part. In one form, Fig. 1, the silencer is cylindrical, with alternative inlets and outlets 18, and the openings between successive chambers are formed bv semi-circular recesses in the edges of the partitions 17. One end of the cylinder mav be flattened to form a fish-tail outlet. In a modification, Fig. 12, the two parts are substantially of disc form, forming a flat circular casing with an outlet slot 19. The Provisional Specification states that cooling-vanes may be provided upon either of the two main parts.
