Abstract

190,160. Devlaminck, R., and Gillant, M. C. N. Dec. 8, 1921, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Letter-spacing mechanism.-In escapement mechanism comprising a rocker provided with fast and loose dogs, the travel of the loose dog Is limited for single or double spacing by means of an adjustable stop. Preferably, the rocker c, Fig. 8, mounted on trunnions c<1> on a detachable support a, is provided at the top with a fast dog d, and a loose dog c which slides in a groove g and rests on a screw g<1>. The dogs co-operate with an escapement wheel f, the loose dog being normally in engagement. The rocker is connected at the bottom and the top to returning-springs, the top spring being adjustable by means of a screw. The loose dog is actuated by a spring e<2>, the travel being limited by a lug h<1> on a sliding adjustable stop h which is mounted on the support, and is retained in the set position by means of a roller i adapted to engage one or other of two notches j<1>, j<2>. The roller is carried by a bell-crank i<1> connected to a spring i<3>. The sliding stop h may be replaced by a pivoted stop having an eccentric face in the path of the loose dog. Carriage-releasing arrangements.- The loose dog c can be depressed for carriage-release by means of a lever k, Fig. 12, pivoted at k<1> and having a lug k<2> engaging the loose dog. The lever k is raised by means of a spring k<3> and can be depressed by means of a release-lever t which is pivoted at l<1> and has a lug l<2> for engaging the lever k. Or, the lever k can be depressed by means of the tabulating-key m, Fig. 8, a lever actuated thereby being connected by a spring n to the lever k. Carriage-brakes. - The tabulating-key is connected to a brake by means of connections comprising flexible members. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 8, the brake consists of two spring- blades o which co-operate with a drum p on the escapement wheel f and are connected by a flexible member q, passing through a sheath q<1>, to an arm r<1> on a rock-shaft r operated by the tabulating-key m. In a modification, pivoted blades urged apart by springs, are connected by a straight length of cable to a bell-crank connected to the tabulating-key. The cable is provided at the ends with adjusting-screws. In another modification, the brake consists of a cable wound on the drum p and connected at one end to a post and at the other to a bell-crank operated by the tabulating-key.
