Abstract

5496. Batault, E. Aug. 17, A.D. 1900, [date applied for under Sec. 103 of Patents &c. Act, A.D. 1883]. Energy meters.-Alternating-current induction motor meters, such as are described in Specification No. 121, A.D. 1898, are modified for use with varying electric pressures. A conducting-disc F revolves between a laminated horse-shoe electromagnet A (shown in end view) and an adjustably - fixed armature. The magnet A is excited by shunt coils A', and its poles are slotted, or its core is divided as shown, to receive one or more main current coils S'. Laminated iron plates L, placed above the shunt coils, partly shunt the magnetic flux, air gaps being left between these plates and the poles of the magnet. The iron plates L may surround the poles, to serve as the closed conducting-circuits described in the Specification referred to ; adjustment is effected by cutting partly through the ends of the plates. The disc F is retarded mainly by a permanent magnet P, and, to protect this from the electromagnet A, the latter is shielded by an iron casing C, D. Or the magnets may be placed in two compartments of an iron casing having a removable cover. The armature over the electromagnet A may be adjustable about a pivot ; or it may be fixed, and provided with an auxiliary armature, movable about a pivot towards either pole of the magnet.
