9626. Edwards, J. H. May 25. Sash fastenings.-Relates to the sash fastenings described in Specifications No. 21,911. A.D. 1898, and No. 10,227, A.D. 1899. A tumbler a, pivoted to a casing c attached to one sash, is provided with a recess e<1> adapted to engage a projection on a plate f attached to the other sash. Projections e, f<2> are arranged on the tumbler a, one of which is adapted to engage a projection h on the plate f, and the other to engage a weight i sliding in the casing c. The weight is retained in the casing by tongues k. When the window is open, the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1. In closing the window, the projection h comes into contact with the projection e, thereby raising the weight and enabling the tumbler to fall into the locking position, after which the weight falls at the back of the tumbler and prevents the operation of the same, as shown in Fig. 3. When it is desired to open the window, the weight is raised and placed so as to rest on projections j in the casing, and in opening the window the tumbler releases the weight, which, after the window is opened, falls back to the position shown in Fig. 1. In a modification, the weight is provided with projections which slide in slots in the casing, so that the weight can be raised and then turned about the projections as pivots to a horizontal position, when it is desired to open the window.
