Abstract

189,884. Rushen, P. C., (Economy Carburetor Foreign Rights Corporation). Sept. 10, 1921. Spray carburettors of the type described in Specification 157,561, in which an air-valve, a fuel-valve, and a mixture-valve are simultaneously controlled, have in addition independent means for regulating the fuel supply which may comprise either (1), means for varying the relative positions of the air and fuel valves, or (2), means for varying the position of the fuel nozzle relative to the shell of the carburettor. Fig. 2 shows a plan of the carburettor and Fig. 4 shows a vertical section. The primary air-inlet c<5> converges to a throat, where a transversely sliding plate D controls the entry of air into a diverging mixing-chamber c'. The fuel passes from the float chamber A through a conduit a into a vertically adjustable needle E having a wedge-shaped end which engages a tapered hole in the nozzle to divide the jet. The mixture is controlled by a butterfly valve G fixed to a vertical spindle f<11> operated by a lever f<12>. For the purpose of simultaneously operating the valves G, D, E, the spindle f<11> carries on an arm f<8> a pin f<9> which engages one end of a sliding bar f<7>, the other end of which engages a bell-crank f<5>, f<2> connected to a vertically-sliding block d<1> which carries the valves D, E. To move the valve E independently, it is mounted in a sleeve g<1> which may be lifted against a spring H by rotation of a cam I having inclined surfaces v<2>, as shown in Fig. 7. The cam I has a radial arm v<3> which engages a slot in a sliding plate J operated by a control cable L. In the modified construction in which the height of the fuel nozzle may be varied, the valve E is rigidly fixed to the block d<1> and the nozzle is snugly, but slidably, mounted on an internal pipe delivering the fuel, and is moved by being provided with two pins which are operated from the control cable through a bell-crank.
