T y r e s, pneumatic.-The inner air tube of a pneumatic tyre is provided with an expansive sheath of fabric b and at the tread side thereof a non - extensible circular protecting strip comprising two or more strips of cork e, scarfed and secured together at their ends and segmental in cross-section, and a non- extensible strip of fabric f. All these parts are vulcanized together, and produce when inflated a tyre egg-shaped in cross-section, with the thin portion at the tread thereof. c is the outer cover. The edges of the strip b may be connected by overlapping, but they are preferably joined by an inner narrow strip of rubber and an outer inextensible strip which prevents creeping.
