The outer part of the rubber C is narrower than the inner part D, which extends across the width of the rim A. The protector comprises a series of channel-shaped metal pieces E, of which the edges F are outwardly turned to take under the inwardlyturned edges B of the rim, rubber bands G being placed between them. The rubber C may be additionally secured by bands I, and canvas strips for preventing creeping may be interposed to the rubber and the rim A. If the rubber is hollow, metal tubes may be inserted in the holes at the places where two pieces adjoin. In a modification, the rim is narrower than the protector.
