Double-acting piston pumps; suction pipes and reservoirs; valves, arrangement of; locking devices. - Consists in a portable reservoir from which the liquid is discharged by a double-acting pump contained within it. At the delivery end is a chamber 29 communicating with one end of the pump-barrel through a port 30, and with the other through a port 33, passages 27, 25, and a pipe 31, the ports being controlled by a ball 32. From the said chamber a pipe 55 leads to the delivery nozzle 11. When the piston is at the inner end of its stroke a spring-pressed plug of cork 50 closes the end of the pipe 55. The piston draws the liquid through pairs of revoluble pipes 35, 36, each pair being provided with coupled ballvalves 48, 48<1>, so that when the reservoir is tilted transversely the upper ball rests on its seat and liquid is drawn through the lower leg only. The suction pipes 39, 40 are provided with coupled valves 43, 44, so that when the reservoir is tilted axially, liquid is drawn through the lower pair of tubes 35, 36 only. In a modification the tubes 35, 36 only oscillate and rest on the lower wall of the reservoir, being provided with cork buffers to prevent rattling.
