Abstract
188,921. Linotype & Machinery, Ltd., and Drake, T. Oct. 28, 1921. Magazines and escapements for typebar - making machines. Relates to means for delivering matrices from a number of magazines to a single assembler entrance by means of an adjustable, guideway carrying a single set of escapementstrikers. (1) The escapement - strikers 14, which are pivoted on the sliding bridgebar 11 of the adjustable guide - way, and are operated by stationary levers 47, are so formed at their lower ends as to com. pensate for the vary. ing movement im. parted to them by the levers 47 in differ. ent positions of the bridge-bar. The tails 49 of the strikers, which are engaged by studs 48 on the levers 47, are inclined to the plane of the magazine mouths so that the strikers are turned slightly about their pivots as the bridge-bar ;s adjusted. (2) The matrices are guided from the magazines to the fixed assembler entrance 5 by partitions 12 on the bridge-bar 11 and partitions 13 on an intermediate plate 36, as heretofore. According to the invention, a second intermediate plate 39 is loosely anchored to the, assembler-entrance 5 by studs 40, and is connected by slots and studs to the plate 36. A compression spring may be provided to hold the plate 36 in contact with the bridgebar, and to extend the plates 36, 39. The partitions 12, 13 have side-pieces 43 secured to their lower portions so as to form pockets for the reception of the upper ends of the partitions 13 and of the partitions 6 of the assembler-entrance 5 respectively.
