Abstract

Tension arrangements. - In a cross winding machine, a "taking-up" mechanism is provided to enable the thread to be wound directly from the hank on to a cone. The traversing cam 9 is mounted on a loose sleeve 10 on a driving shaft 1, and is driven by means of gears 5, 6, 8, and pulley gear 2, 3 from the driving shaft. The conical spindle 27 is driven through a universal coupling 34 by gears 31, 32. Integral with the cam sleeve 10 is a face cam 12 adapted to reciprocate a rod 15 which in turn reciprocates a thread guide 25 through a lever 18, the fulcrum 19 of which is adjustable. The thread guide 25 is adapted to reciprocate along a median line at right angles to the line joining two fixed thread guides 26, and the cams 9, 12 are so arranged on the sleeve that during the winding on the smaller diameter of the cone the thread is taken up by the movable guide 25, so that the speed of the thread is uniform and equal to the peripheral speed of the mean diameter of the cone.
