188,295. Raymond, A. F. Oct. 31, 1921, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Stud-and-socket fastenings.-In a press button fastener of the type in which springs in the socket member engage in a groove in the stud member, the socket member comprises a casing d which may be fixed to the leather or fabric by claws d' engaging a washer d<2> or by riveting, a hollow cylindrical member c adapted to fit over the stud a and having slots at the side to allow the springs f<1>, f<2> to engage the groove a<1>, and a knob g secured to the part c. A spiral or blade spring h bears on the head of the stud a in the closed position. The stud a may be secured to a wood or metal fixture b. To open the fastening, the control knob g is slightly turned, thereby rotating the member c, and the edges of the slots will press the springs f', f<2> outward from the groove a'; the spring h then effects the automatic separation of the parts. In a modification shown in Fig. 13, the ends of the springs extend through the casing d and engage downwardly curved extensions l<1>, l<2> of the knob g, the slotted central member c being stationary and release of the springs being effected by rotation of the knob g. In a further modification, the ends of the springs are attached to the top of the casing d, whereof the lower part is stationary as well as the central member c, and release is effected by rotation of the top part.
