Abstract

188,254. Dunkerley, G. Dec. 29, 1921. Mechanical toys. -Apparatus for amusement or display purposes comprises a shaft u, Fig. 4, driven by an electric motor or other power means, which drives frictionally, at a speed differing slidhtly from that of a coloured member a secured to the shaft, an obscuring-member b having apertures j, Fig. 1, and carried by a sleeve v mounted loosely upon the shatt, so that a continuous change of colour is viewed through the apertures in the obscuring-member. Additional driving force may be applied to the obscuring-member by a spring secured to the shaft and pressing against the sleeve. The speed of the obscuring-member may be retarded by wings formed upon it, or by slowing down the motor by placing in its circuit a thermo-blink. Further, the device may be driven at a constant speed, the speed of the obscuring-member being altered at intervals by an electromagnet. In another arrangement, the difference in speed may be produced by electromagnetic induction.
