Abstract

187,520. Jackson, E. T. Dec. 28, 1921. Brakes, arrangement of.-An auxiliary braking attachment for motor vehicles already fitted with internal expanding brakes, particularly vehicles of the " Ford " type comprises an external brake band adapted to contract on the periphery of the existing drum, the bracket carrying the external band being secured to the axle casing by bolts engaging the existing bolt holes therein. In Fig. 2 the bracket a supporting the auxiliary external brake band f is secured to the axle casing by bolts passing through two of the three existing bolt holes b, b<1>, b<2>. The ends of the brake band f are connected to a lever e pivoted at d and the operating cable i is connected with the existing brake control rod. The band f is guided by spring- fitted pins upon it engaging slots in angle brackets i which are secured to the axle casing by any or all of the bolts b, b', b<2>. The form of the bracket a may be varied.
