Abstract

184,238. Thompson, W. P., (Vereinigte Gl³hlampen-und Elektrizitõts Akt.-Ges.). April 30, 1921. Wire for leading-in wires for electric lamps, X-ray tubes &c. is so formed as to prevent air leaking into the bulbs along the grooves formed in the wire during the drawing operation. For this purpose, the wire may be ground smooth or the grooves may be given a spiral shape either by turning the die while drawing or by twisting the wire. In the latter case, the wire is passed between rolls to flatten it and obliterate portions of the grooves. The flattened portion of the wire may be graduated in thickness, the portion in the middle being the thinnest, and that adjoining the cylindrical portion of the wire of intermediate thickness.
