Abstract

Speed maintaining systems.-In driving gear for the several sections of a paper making or like machine of the kind in which e a c h section is driven by a separate motor provided with an automatic speed regulating device, the speed regulating devices are driven in series so that the adjustment of one varies the speed of the succeeding sections. The speed regulator is of usual screw and nut type in which the nut is driven by belt g<1> from a pulley g on the motor e and the screwed shaft c is driven by a belt b<2> from a pulley b on a shaft a in the preceding section of the machine. Axial movement of the shaft c sets a rheostat k and varies the speed of the motor e. In a modification, the speed regulating devices are driven by electromagnetic clutches in series with the respective motor from a series of shafts driven in series by variable speed gear, so that if one section is shut down, the succeeding sections are not arrested.
