184,116. Ransomes & Rapier, Ltd., and Stokes, Sir F. W. S. Dec. 15, 1921. Frictional apparatus on permanent way. - Leaf springs E<4>, Fig. 7, are provided to retain ,a, trolley E running on auxiliary rails E<2> when the chain F which it carries is disconnected from the draw-bar of a locomotive. Skid.-Turntable brakes are actuated through a lever J<2>, Fig. 8, which engages a, crank J<3> carrying an adjustable stop J<4> in engagement with the flattened end K<1> of an arm K secured to the pivot of the brake shoe K<2> which works in conjunction with the shoe M. These two shoes are mounted on parallel arms P carried upon cross-shafts P<1> secured to the turntable to provide lateral and vertical movement for inequalities in the track rail O or rise and fall of the turntable. The shoes may engage a ring or surface formed on the wall or flooring of the turntable well. or they may engage some part of the turntable, in which case they would be actuated from one or more fixed points near the wall of the well.
