Spindle apparatus.-A sleeve d, Figs. 1 and 2, carrying a spinning spindle a by means of a ball bearing e and an adjustable footstep f is mounted resiliently in the casing o by longitudinal springs r arranged around its exterior. The sleeve is supported by a screw q. Oil supplied to the interior of the sleeve through a non-return valve l passes to the footstep by grooves i, g and escapes into the case o by holes k. A bobbin b with wharl c is mounted on the spindle. Fig. 4 shows a stationary spindle a carrying a bobbin b and wharl c by a ball bearing e<1> and end bearing f<1>, the spindle being held fixed in or integral with a member d<1> which is supported in the case o by a screw q and mounted resiliently by longitudinal springs r. Lubricant w stored above the bearing f<1> beneath a plug v passes to the bearings by holes x.
